Professor David Umoru (PhD, MSc., BSc., OND., CPP-AERC, FMNES)  is a Professor of Economics, and Head of the Department of Economics, Edo University Iyamho, Edo State, Nigeria. He was the Ag. Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Management & Social Sciences, Edo University Iyamho from December 2016 through to March, 2018.  David Umoru obtained a PhD degree in Economics from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria in collaboration with the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi, Kenya under the CPP having been advantaged to enjoy a PhD scholarship and sponsorship by the AERC.

Professor David Umoru is a full member of the Nigerian Economic Society (NES), Ibadan, Nigeria and a 2018 member of the International Atlantic Economic Society (IAES), United States of America. Professor Umoru’s teaching space and academic research include economic theory, applied econometrics, mathematical economics/macroeconometric modelling, economic development policy simulation & analysis, monetary economics and international economics. His career objective is to effectively find solutions to socio-economic challenges through effective contribution to knowledge and enhancing adequate training via teaching and execution of demand-driven, globally competitive researches with relevance to economic growth & development policy of nations.

David Umoru headed the Department of Economics and earned five (5) years full accreditation status of National Universities Commission (NUC) for the Bachelor of Sciences degree programme in Economics at Edo University Iyamho in 2018. He has been commended twofold by the Management of Edo University. Firstly, he was issued a letter of commendation for positive contributions towards the creation and success of Open Educational Repository (OER) for Edo University Iyamho which earned the University a prestigious 3rd position in the overall National Universities Commission (NUC) ranking of Nigerian Universities in 2017.  Secondly, David Umoru was issued another letter of commendation for full National Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation of the Department of Economics with highest score of 95.6% above all other departments accredited in Edo University Iyamho in 2018.

Professor David Umoru has loads of academic publications of academic research findings in reputable national/international academic journals with appreciable impact factor. He is a consultant in the field of economics and in particular an econometrician as evinced in his rigorous mathematical modelling plus econometric analysis of most of his published articles. David Umoru has accumulated wealth of administrative experiences as a lecturer, presiding officer of innumerable departmental/faculty committees, member of university committees such as the university mock NUC accreditation committee, postgraduate coordinator, member of Senate, member of Faculty Board, Head of Department, Ag. Dean of Faculty. By these activities and in addition to his interpersonal skills, Professor David Umoru had equipped himself to function exceptionally as a university academic.

As a student of Economics, David Umoru is a prize winner and hence a recipient of numerous academic prizes such as the, Chief James Onanefe Ibori’s Prize for the Best Graduating Student, Economics & Statistics, University of Benin, Professor S. E. N. Okoh’s Foundation Prize for the Best Graduating Student, Economics & Statistics, University of Benin just to mention a few. He has attended international conferences and workshops in cities such as Arusha in Tanzania, Nairobi in Kenya, Texas, California in the United States of America, London in the United Kingdom etc. in order to exchange academic ideas. In 2017, he was an External Examiner in the Department of Economics, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Nigeria where in a Postgraduate Oral Defense, he examined the topic “An Econometric Study of the Impact of Agricultural Output on Economic Growth in Nigeria”. Professor David Umoru is responsibly married with four (4) children.
